Voice Answers

Let people answer a Long text question by speaking, in English or Spanish. Their answer turns into text they can fix before submitting.

What voice answers are

People can answer a Long text question on a form by speaking. They tap Speak, say their answer, and it turns into text in the field, where they can read it and fix it before submitting the form. It's a good fit for questions like "How did your shift go?" at the end of the day, when typing on a phone is the reason people don't write much.

Turn on voice answers for a question

In the form builder, open a Long text question and select Allow answering by voice. A Speak button appears under the field, on the website and in the phone app.

Answer by voice

  1. Click or tap Speak. The first time, your browser or phone asks for permission to use the microphone.
  2. Say your answer. A bar shows how much time is left, up to one minute. Recording stops on its own at the end, or you can click or tap Stop.
  3. "Turning it into text…" appears for a few seconds. Then the text is added to the field, after anything you've already typed.
  4. Read it, fix anything that's wrong, and submit the form as usual.

Skidle recognizes English and Spanish, and the text stays in the language you spoke. Very short answers are harder to recognize, so a sentence or two works best. Skidle cleans up the text by adding punctuation and removing "um"s and false starts, without changing what you said.

What's kept

Only the text. The recording is deleted as soon as it's turned into text, or within a day if that doesn't finish. Voice answers are turned into text on Amazon Web Services, in the United States. See the privacy policy.

Each recording counts against your account's monthly voice minutes, which you can see in Account under Usage. When you run out, Skidle won't take new recordings and shows a note that says why. People can type their answers instead until the next month starts.
