Cover, Swaps, and Time Off

Ask someone to cover your shift, swap shifts, pick up an open shift, or request time off. Depending on how your account is set up, your admin approves it or it goes through automatically.

Plans change. Skidle lets people handle most changes themselves, so the owner doesn't have to answer every "Can you take my Saturday?" text.

You can do all of this in Schedule on the website, and on the Schedule tab in the phone app.

Get your shift covered

Click one of your shifts, then click Find cover. You can ask one person, or anyone who can work it. You can give away the whole shift or just part of it, like the last two hours.

The people you ask can see the request, and whoever takes it is put on the schedule in your place. Depending on how your account is set up, that happens as soon as they take it, or after an admin approves it.

Swap a shift

Click Swap to offer to trade one of your shifts for one of theirs, whole shift for whole shift. If they accept, the swap goes through the same way: right away, or once an admin approves it.

Pick up a shift

Click Time off/swaps. Available shifts lists open shifts and shifts people are giving away. Click one to take it. Open shifts also appear on your schedule when you click Everyone.

To see your own requests, look under My swaps and cover. To cancel one that no one has taken yet, click Cancel request.

If an admin publishes a change that a request no longer fits, like moving the shift, giving it to someone else, or deleting it, the request closes. It shows as Schedule changed, and you and anyone who took it are notified.

Request time off

Click Time off/swaps, then click Request time off. You can request whole days or a specific stretch between two times. You can add a note if you want, and only admins can see it. Your admin is notified, and you're notified when they answer.

Admins answer time-off requests in Schedule under Time off/swaps. Each request shows any shifts that would be left without someone, so you know what you're agreeing to before you approve it.

Under Approved time off, admins see everyone's upcoming time off, soonest first. Click the pencil to change the dates or note, or the X to cancel it, and the person is notified. If someone asks in person, click Add time off, choose who, and enter the dates. It's approved right away, and they're notified.

Set your availability

In My availability, set the days and times you're free and the maximum number of hours you want to work each week. Your admin sees this when building the schedule. It's a guide, not a rule, and you can change it at any time.

For admins

Requests that need your approval are in Schedule under Time off/swaps. Pending swaps and cover shows the requests someone has taken. When you approve one, the schedule changes and both people are notified. When you deny one, you can include a reason.

Requests close a set number of hours before the shift, so no one can give away a shift that starts in ten minutes. To set how many hours, and whether requests need your approval at all, click Schedule, then click Settings. See Build the schedule.
