Workflow Step: Photo

Ask for photos as proof of work, taken with a phone or added from a computer, with no app to install.

What Photo does

Photo asks someone for one or more photos, like the clean fridge, the delivery at the door, or the front of the shop set up for opening. The run waits until they add the photos and click Done.

Set it up

  • What to photograph: The heading people see, like "The front of the walk-in fridge."
  • Instructions: Anything else they need to know, like the angle or what needs to be in the photo.
  • At least and At most: How many photos. At most can be up to 20.
  • Allow photos taken earlier: On by default. It lets people drag photos from a computer or choose existing ones on their phone. Turn it off to ask for the phone's camera instead. A phone can still offer its saved photos, so this strongly encourages a new photo but can't guarantee one.

Give the step a Done way out, and add buttons for any other ways out, like "Couldn't do it."

Answer it

The step appears on the Dashboard and on the task that started the run.

On a computer:

  • Drag photos onto the box, or click Choose photos. You can add several at once.
  • Or click Use your phone. A QR code appears. Point your phone's camera at it and open the link.

On a phone: The link opens a page with Take a photo and, if allowed, Choose photos. You don't need an app or an account. Each photo appears on the computer as it arrives. When you're done, click Done on the computer.

The link works for 30 minutes, and only for this step. If it expires, click Use your phone again to get a new one.

Until you click Done, you can remove any photo by clicking the ✕ on it. Done isn't available until there are enough photos.

Size and storage

Photos are resized before they're sent, to at most 2048 pixels on the longest side. That's plenty to read a label or a thermometer. Resizing also removes hidden details, like where the photo was taken. If the browser can't resize a photo, like a HEIC photo on most computers, it's sent as is, up to 20 MB.

Photos count toward your account's file storage, the same storage as Files, but they don't appear in Files. They belong to the workflow run. If your storage is full, no more photos can be added until an admin frees up space.

After it's answered

The run saves the list of photos as data.<step id>.files.
